The Choo Choo Hotel in the center of the city on Market Street should be considered when visiting Chattanooga on business, vacation or as a large group or gathering. Today the Tennessee Harley Riders were pouring in for a HOG Rally.
The hustle and bustle of passengers coming and going at this former train station has been replaced by tourists and visitors to the Scenic City from all over the world.
The accommodations are plush with standard rooms, suites and the opportunity to stay in one of several restored Victorian Train Cars.
The Choo Choo is a resort of sorts with recreation, several restaurants, lounge, retail shopping and convention facilities. The center city location is great for walking to restaurants and shopping downtown or on the Southside or stop by The Terminal Brewhouse next door. Walk to the Plaza Parties on Thursday or Nightfall on Friday’s at Miller Plaza.
The Terminal Station was erected in 1908, with its centerpiece – a magnificent dome – that rose majestically over the concourse. Built of steel and concrete and buttressed by huge brick arches, the dome rested on four steel supports 75 feet apart.
The first train pulled into the station on December 1, 1909. The depot grew to serve nearly 50 passenger trains a day and over the years, the Chattanooga terminal greeted Presidents Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Franklin Roosevelt.
The first Chattanooga Choo Choo Train was Cincinnati Southern Railroad’s small wood burning steam locomotive, now completely refurbished, she is the only engine of her kind now in the city.

The Choo Choo Hotel is again bustling with activity in many ways still serving as the “Gateway to Chattanooga.”
