First word out of their mouths was “Awesome”

With Jake home for 2 weeks of R&R from his station in Iraq, he had made a list of things he and his wife wanted to do. Kayaking was something new and different although both are experienced on and in the water.

Looking online for an outfitter they found River Canyon Adventures located just off Suck Creek Road just 15 minutes from downtown Chattanooga.

If you are looking for a relaxing afternoon on the river, this is it. Today was mostly sunny with some overcast and slight chance for thundershowers. The paddling was easy and when the sun did break through the 2 of them headed for shade along the shore. Spotting a rope swing they had some fun getting wet and then moving on.

River Canyon Adventures supplies the kayak, paddles and flotation and lets you go providing as much or as little assistance as you need. The only requirement is a cellphone to call when you are done. The ski boat finds you downstream and shuttles you back to where you put in.

Terrible business practice! After multiple phone calls and emails our kayaking group made plans with this outfitter for transportation on the river back to our vehicles. We were quoted a price and I even called two days prior to confirm. Upon arrival the manager, Ray,told us that the price went up! He charged us $45 more than confirmed because “his other employee ‘ran off with his girlfriend” and he had plans with his grandson and “didn’t have time for us”…therefore we were going to pay more to “make it worth his while”. When I reminded him of the emails, he said “I don’t ever look at that computer”. We were forced to pay the extra money! As I looked around this terribly unorganized business, I noticed that equipment was old, poorly stored, and unkempt looking. It seems overall that this business does not want your business. None of the employees talk to each other, so be careful if you decide to take the chance with this group!
