Rugby sevens tournaments are traditionally known for having more of a relaxed atmosphere, than fifteen-a-side games, and are often known as “festivals”.

“Pitch A Tent” is certainly all of that and more. Hosted by the Chattanooga Rugby Football Club this tournament has grown to included 50+ men’s and women’s teams from all over the eastern half of the United States in just 9 years.

The tournament will offer both a men’s and women’s social division with trophies and prizes to the placers as well as for team and personal efforts. Free beverages will be available Friday through Sunday, a welcome social Friday night, the main social Saturday night, camping, showers, swimming , whitewater rafting and all of the fun that the wonderful “scenic city” of Chattanooga has to offer.

Rugby Sevens, also known as seven-a-side, is a variant of rugby union in which teams are made up of seven players, instead of the usual 15, with shorter matches. The game originated in the border town of Melrose, Scotland. The game is popular at all levels, with amateur and club tournaments generally held in the summer months.

Rugby sevens is now recognized as an Olympic sport and will make its debut in the 2016 Summer Olympics to be held in Rio.  If you’ve ever played or been exposed to this great game now you know that Rugby is alive and well in Chattanooga!

Matches will be played all day Saturday July 24 at Cherokee Farms, directions to Pitch A Tent Sevens, if you go, make it a day and visit Cloudland Canyon State Park and finish the day with a wonderful dinner at Canyon Grill…reservation is recommended.
